2017
Reformatted publishing processes
A year of change for the Internal Communications and Publishing Department! Carried out in January 2017, the reformatting of the internal publishing processes achieved ambitious objectives, both in terms of efficiency and reducing costs. Béatrice Chandellier, Director of Internal Communications and Publishing reviews the transformations that took place in 2017: “The activity of the publishing team includes three main activities: print production (writing, proofreading, rewriting, DTP, printed brochures, various flyers for all of our departments), POS (kakemonos, stands, tarpaulins, various coverings, etc.) and of course printing itself. Even if it is marginal compared with the rest of our activities, we sometimes produce digital animation (motion design, animated displays, etc.). We handle about 150 files a year, and are busy for all 12 months, with an inevitable bottleneck at the start of each academic year since in two months we have to produce all the promotional material for all of the programs. The challenge this year was to keep the peak of activity under control, maintain the team’s comfort level at work and the level of service quality rendered, while limiting the use of outsourcing as much as possible. As an integrated agency, we adopted the principles, rules and production management tools in forecast mode. The integration of a daily processing time for emergencies in DTP planning, anticipating requests three months in advance and rigorous reporting have allowed us to meet the challenge and reduce the outsourcing rate to 3.31% in DTP and to 21.10% that of our print runs. The investment in new printing machines two years ago makes us virtually self-sufficient and we produce a large part of the work used by Centrale Nantes. On its own, the Audencia printing press completed 3,383 runs in 2017!” says Beatrice Chandellier.
